december 5…

And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.

Luke 2:18-19 ESV

The crowds who heard the shepherds tell about a baby whose birth was announced by angels out in the fields wondered… marveled… at what they said…

But Mary… she treasured… and pondered…

What’s the difference…?

Did those who wondered wonder what it meant…? did they wonder if the shepherds told the truth…? was it a passing wonder they weren’t sure what to make of so it slipped away…? or was it shared in passing with others whenever they were reminded by seeing another shepherd somewhere…?

Those outside the story… wondered and marveled… but did it make a difference in their lives…? have a lasting impact…?

Mary treasured all the shepherds revealed… it was important… something to be guarded and kept hold of… she considered it because of its significance… over and over… even if she didn’t fully understand…

She tucked it away in her heart… stored it in her mind… set it in her will… wrapped it around her emotions… right alongside the angel’s message nine months earlier…

Things to remember as she continued living out the miraculous… while surrounded by the mundane… treasures to keep her focused on her call from God… to raise up His Son…

What do you treasure…? ponder…? to keep focused on the miraculous wonder of being His child…? actively living in His Kingdom…? while surrounded by the seemingly mundane…?

What keeps you focused…? on His call on your life…?

Treasure and ponder the revelations He gives… they are fuel to keep us focused on what truly matters…

Treasuring and pondering… help us stay hope-full… and faith-full… in a world where everyday life… can wear away the wonder…

I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds. Your way, O God is holy. What god is great like our God? You are the God who works wonder; you have made known your might among the peoples.

Psalm 77:11-14 ESV
