For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
2Corinthians 4:17-18 ESV
Eugene Peterson… theologian… pastor… author of The Message… died yesterday…
I wonder at the temporary nature of life… physical life… and find myself comforted…
When we place our hope in Jesus… our salvation… our eternal life… which begins now… gets closer and closer to fruition every day we move closer to death…
With hope in Him… there is the promise of no more pain… physical… emotional… relational…
There is the promise of all things set right… nothing left undone… no one getting away with anything…
There is the promise of eternal uninterrupted… joy… glory… peace…
Something which draws nearer… every single day…
When our hope is in Him…
When our days are walked alongside Him…
Seeing eternal purpose… in all He allows… in the temporary nature… of physical life…
So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.
2Corinthians 4:16 ESV
