He calls us light… actually… the light of the world…
And I wonder this evening at my being light in the world… and the journey it has taken me on…
In an effort to be obedient to this call to not hide the light He’s given… I’m moved to review my journey of being a light in my house… and on outward to friends… extended family… and the world… through writing…
It began with a simple desire to share His light with my children… all preschoolers at the time…
With an Advent box… a gift from my mom when the oldest of my three was a toddler… I began to share His story…
It had twenty-five cubbies…. I divided Jesus’s birth story into twenty-five Bible passages to read to my children each year as Christmas approached…
As they grew I desired for them to know it wasn’t just a story… but His Word…
Word which teaches… gives guidance… an important part of our relationship with Him…
So questions were written… discussions had each morning during the Christmas season…
Then a call from a friend I hadn’t spoken to in years…
In response to telling her God kept my days full… she said… I used to do the church thing …but not anymore…
My heart broke… I realized she didn’t get it…! she didn’t understand it’s not about doing… it’s about knowing Him… His love… His transforming power…
From there the Scripture passages… combined with questions… and my own faith story became a booklet of twenty-five devotionals I sent out as my Christmas card that year…
Then years later… I edited… rewrote… and published as an e-book…
Then a few more years… I published a paperback…
It’s a journey… being light…
I never intended to publish a book when I began following Him…
Didn’t know it would lead to this place… where part of being light… is not hiding your light…
…for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.
