blessed to dwell…

Blessed is the one you choose and bring near to dwell in your courts! We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, the holiness of your temple!

Psalm 65:4 ESV

King David wrote these words…

Blessed is the one chosen and brought near to dwell… live in… reside… abide… in God’s courts…

The court David knew was the outer court of the tabernacle…

When entering… the first thing encountered was the altar of burnt offering… a reminder of sin… and the death required to pay its penalty…

On the walk toward the tabernacle… where the Holy of Holies dwelled… was the laver… the large basin for ceremonial cleansing… for the washing away of the weight of sin…

Sacrifice… cleansing… all done in obedience… to enable one to draw near God…

To dwell in this place… near God… was a blessing of envious desire to David…

Abiding within the courts of His presence… where all the work going on around you was about His goodness and holiness…

The preparations required… for sinners to receive the blessing of drawing near Him…

This Old Testament setting was but a shadow of what is in heaven… and a foreshadowing of Jesus who came to make this word flesh…

Living from the perspective of dwelling in His courts… in His presence… seeing everything around you as a means by which God is working out His goodness and holiness… in your life as well as others… is a blessing…

Recognizing all… as the work needed for us to be fully satisfied… with His goodness and holiness… sacrifice and cleansing… surrendered to who He is and who we are before Him…

He is One who works all the time… out of love for us… who need to be set free… and in sore need of being perfected…

And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

Revelation 21:5 ESV

Settle down in His courts… wonder at His work… be satisfied with His goodness and holiness…

Blessed to dwell… in His presence…
