Possible alternatives to what looks impossible.
Jesus replied, “What is impossible with men is possible with God.”
Luke 18:27 NIV
What do you see?
Look around — life is full of impossibilities. Impossibilities happening everyday. Another breath. Another heartbeat. Two things which happen unconsciously for most, regardless of our desire or ability. Life in general is beyond our control.
Just ask the young marrieds who desperately long for a baby but can’t conceive despite their best efforts. It seems impossible. Only God makes things grow.
Something out of nothing. By the power of His Word. Creation came into being. Impossible!
See through His eyes.
Jesus gives us freedom to see differently. Instead of being discouraged. depressed. discontented. by impossible odds. He says: What is impossible with men is possible with God.
In context, Jesus is talking about the rich man who came seeking the way of eternal life. The one who asked Him: What must I do? but wasn’t content with the answer found in the law. When Jesus encouraged him to look at his heart, consider what barrier blocked his path, the rich man went away sad. Jesus loved this man and counseled him to sell everything he had, give it to the poor, then spend his life following Him. For this man it was an impossible way. How can I? The man was rich according to the world, but poverty stricken when it came to the things of God.
What is impossible with men is possible with God.
Enter the realm of possible.
When we enter into His Kingdom, everything becomes a wonder! The world looks different. In light of all the impossibilities — life, birth, an ever-expanding universe, the smallest part of matter held together by nothing, overcoming death, another sunrise, another sunset — God makes all things possible.
John, the one who baptized and the first to identify Jesus as the Lamb of God, sitting in a jail cell began to see impossibilities in what he said he saw. Are you the One we were waiting for? or is there another? was the question he asked Jesus by way of his followers.
Jesus said:
“Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them. And blessed is the one who is not offended by me.”
Matthew 11:4–6 ESV
All things possible. Impossible things happening every day. every moment.
Impossible for anything good to come of evil.
Impossible that death could lead to life.
Impossible for something to come from nothing.
But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Matthew 19:26 ESV
