While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” They were startled and terrified, and thought that they were seeing a ghost. He said to them, “Why are you frightened, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my feet; see that it is I myself. Touch me and see; for a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.” And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. While in their joy they were disbelieving and still wondering…
Luke 24:36-41 NRSV
As unexpected as the horrors of Friday… and the deafening silence of Saturday… was Sunday’s… Hallelujah…!
Too often we expect the bad… the dead… the finished failures… to have the last word…
But it’s just not so…!
What began in Eden… was great….
How it ended… well… we still deal with the consequences…
Yet the pain and wrestling in Gethsemane…
even though it looked like the end…
was only the grand beginning of the glorious FINALE…!
The hallelujah of Sunday… is what we need to remember when it looks like all is lost… because for those who believe in the work of the cross… the only thing in store… is great glory…
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
Revelation 21:1-4 ESV
But we also need the reminder… we won’t see it coming…
It’s not anything we could ever imagine…
And the unexpected end… will be far better… than anything we would have thought to ask of Him…
Jesus’s resurrection… the source of Sunday’s Hallelujah… is the promise of an eternal life of love… joy… peace… imperishable and unimaginable…
And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
Revelation 21:5 ESV
Oh… let us remind ourselves… and those in our world… just how wonderful… glorious.. unexpected… and fabulous… is the promised hope of resurrection power… for those who believe…
But as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”…
1Corinthians 2:9 ESV
Sunday’s… Hallelujah…! is the wonder of what He is doing… and all that is to come… let’s strive to live in it’s unbelievable wonder… every single moment… of every single day… until He returns…
