“My presence will go with you and I will give you rest.”
Exodus 33:14 NRSV
Life’s storms kick up in numerous ways and places…
But God promises to be in the place we are… whatever this place might be…
Not only will He be with us… but He promises to give us something…
REST…
The Hebrew translated as rest can mean… to repose… have rest… be quiet… (Enhanced Strong’s Lexicon)
Repose… a place of rest… peace… tranquility… (Merriam-Webster’s)
You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress; my God in whom I trust.”
Psalm 91:1-2 NRSV
He is the perfect refuge… no matter the storm or its intensity…
refuge… noun… 1: shelter or protection from danger or distress 2: a place that provides shelter or protection 3: something to which one has recourse in difficulty
–Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (11th Ed.)
God is our one sure refuge in a storm…
Storms are out of our control… but not God’s…
Just like when we run into a house for shelter from a thunderstorm… and wait for it to blow over… we are to run and rest in the shelter of God… until the storms of life blow over…

All of which… come to pass…
We sit in His shelter… wait on Him… trusting in Him…
Resting in who God is… is the key piece to begin living in peace…
Resting in His character… gives us repose… tranquility… peace… no matter the storm…
The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.
