farming faith…

Be patient, therefore beloved, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious crop from the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.

James 5:7-8 NRSV

You also must be patient… like the farmer… when it comes to farming faith…

The farmer does what he can… plants… waters… weeds… but only God makes things grow…

So much out of the farmer’s control… weather… quality of the seed… disease… insect infestations…

Mainly the work of the farmer is… w.a.i.t.i.n.g… w.a.t.c.h.i.n.g…

We too… like one who farms the earth… must be patient… as we farm faith…

Only we plant love and truth… in our lives… and the lives of those we love…

We water with prayer and thanksgiving…

Weed out unbelief…

Fertilize with trust… putting what faith we have… into the only One who makes things grow…

Aww… but the farmer’s work is season to season… annually… yearly… crops come and go… the fruit of his patience has a relatively short timeline…

Faith… however… is an eternal crop… a spiritual growth… whose seasons are only seen and controlled by God… the Great Unseen…

The harvest of grace… set to be fully revealed the Day Jesus returns… when He reaps what He has grown…

We farmers of faith… must strengthen our hearts… set them firmly in place on the promises of Him who is faith-full…

For in [Jesus Christ] every one of God’s promises is a “Yes.” For it is through him that we say the “Amen,” to the glory of God.

2Corinthians 1:20 NRSV
