When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.
Proverbs 11:2 ESV
I read it in my morning reading…
The path of pride burdens us with defensiveness, while the way of humility frees us to receive teaching and correction. The first path seeks self-justification, while the second pursues truth wherever it leads.
–Kelly M. Kapic, A Little Book for New Theologians
Pride… a burden… focused on self…
Humility… freedom… seeking Truth…
Two great markers… to help identify where we are walking…
Ask yourself…
- Are you constantly burdened with the need to defend yourself…? justify who you are…? what you believe…?
Or…
- Are you free to hear people out…? consider you might be wrong…? in need correction…?
Self-justifying vs Teachable…
Which way are you walking…?

I know I’ll be watching my step today… listening to my words… which reveal the way of my heart…
And remember…
“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
James 4:6 ESV
Thank you for the reminder of listening to our words. Our hearts need to be line with Jesus, so do our words!
