be holy…

“You must be holy because, I the Lord, am holy. I have set you apart from all other people to be my very own. …”

Leviticus 20:26 NLT

Today… the verses of morning light… on the Daily Light for the Daily Path reading plan… focused on God’s people being holy…

Set apart… consecrated… sanctified…

Living differently… than others in the world… because we are His…

The verses of morning light… give insight… to what this set apart life looks like…

…we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed. He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.

Titus 2:13-14 NLT

Hope-full… those who are holy… live lives full of hope… in a very dark world…

They live with the hope of being wholly free from sin… whatever form binds us…

We live in the hope of complete forgiveness… and the hope He can and will use us to do good…

Keep all my decrees by putting them into practice, for I am the Lord who makes you holy.

Leviticus 20:8 NLT

Obedient… those who are holy not only know God’s way… but do it…

To whatever degree we understand His Word… we… obey… it…

His way is very different than the world’s… and sets us apart from others when we practice it in our daily lives…

Not just going to church on Sunday… but living His way… wherever we are… every day of the week… moment by moment…

So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters.

Hebrews 2:11 NLT

Jesus makes us holy… bringing us into His family… so we might be like Him… loving God… and loving others…

Those who are holy… love like Him…

We love the Father because He is our Father too…

We love His church… because we are brothers and sisters… bound by His blood…

We love our neighbors… those outside the church… because He loves them too… just like He loved us when we were one of them…

To be holy is to love with His love… Greater love has no man than this… that he lay down his life for his friends (John 15:13)…  loving your neighbor as yourself (Luke 10:33-37)…

God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. May God give you more and more grace and peace.

1Peter 1:2 NLT

Being holy… living holy… involves understanding… you… are… chosen…

You are chosen… by your Creator… to live a set apart life… for Him… for His glory…

Holy is living humbly before God… in tune with Father… Son… Spirit… in grateful thanks… for the life He’s given you… to shine for Him…

Being holy… can be a hard concept to define… in a very un-holy world… there aren’t many words to wrap it up neatly… succinctly…

How to be holy… and getting some kind of mental grip on the One who is Holy… is fleshed out for us… in His Word…

For me this morning light… time in His Word… has given me a better handle on what it means to be holy…

Hope-full

Obedient

Love like Him

You are chosen… live like it…

Make them holy by your truth; teach them you word, which is truth. Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth. –Jesus praying to His Father for His disciples
