Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel, “Because you despise the word and trust in oppression and perverseness and rely on them, therefore this iniquity shall be to you like a breach in a high wall, bulging out and about to collapse, whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant; and its breaking is like that of a potter’s vessel that is smashed so ruthlessly that among its fragments not a shard is found with which to take fire from the hearth, or to dip up water out of the cistern.”
Isaiah 30:12-14 ESV
Self deceived… I experienced a bit of its sudden revelation and collapse today…
Aiming to sit on a stool I believed to be 36″ tall… I suddenly realized the stool I was sitting on was about 18″ tall…
Somewhere between the 36 to 18 inch height… when I should’ve been resting secure… the error became clear… but far too late to do anything about it… but laugh…
Mid free fall… onto the not so tall stool… before crashing to the floor… I realized the mistake… the self-deception… which led to a humbling fall…
The truth I believed… acted on… was no truth at all… it was a lie…
Fortunately… my fall wasn’t fatal… and perhaps could be considered a bone density test… which they appear to have passed…
But it struck me later… reflecting on the fall… this was a picture of what will happen to those who live self deceived…
Those who trust in their own understanding… their own reason… believing they know exactly where they are headed… but suddenly… without warning… too late to change direction… too late to cry out for mercy… too late to repent…
CRASH…!
A fall so great… there is no recovery… no restoration… no redemption…
Truth… He is returning… and when He does… it will be too late for some… just like it was for me in my self deceived state…
They’ll realize… just before the moment of destruction… the fatal error made…
Instead of laughing… they’ll be dumbfounded with awe… terror… free falling into deadly darkness…
Praying this evening for those who live self deceived…
Praying for the grace of humility to seek truth… openness to the reality of flawed thinking and skewed understanding…
Praying for a willingness… to receive Truth… before it’s too late…
Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the voice of his servant? Let him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God. Behold, all you who kindle a fire, who equip yourselves with burning torches! Walk by the light of your fire, and by the torches that you have kindled! This you have from my hand: you shall lie in torment.
