When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.
Matthew 1:24-25 ESV
The second Sunday of Advent… the blessing of opening the next part of my early Christmas gift…
Joseph… Mary’s betrothed… a good man who found himself in a difficult situation… his wife to be… pregnant…
To all the world… including himself… it looked as if she had been unfaithful… to him… her family… God…
But being a good man… a godly man… he decided to quietly break the engagement… cause Mary as little disgrace possible… in a disgraceful circumstance…
With his mind set… he went to sleep… at least as best he could…
Yet something happened during the night… an angel came in a dream… things were not as they seemed… Do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife…
When Joseph woke… he did what the angel of the Lord said…
Joseph not only awoke physically… but spiritually… he was now aware of the spiritual reality behind the physical manifestation of Mary’s pregnancy…
Joseph was awake to the things of God…!
Each of us must also wake up spiritually… if we are to wait for His coming well…
It’s time for all who are His… to wake up…!
The King is coming…!
“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
