sometimes… you just need to apologize…

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Romans 10:17 ESV

A new perspective on reading God’s Word…

When you get distracted… sometimes… you need to apologize…

I heard the perspective in a current read…

I was at a motel and out of my usual routine of time and place… I was paying attention when I started reading. Moses was recounting the words of God as he went up on the mountain to receive the Ten Commandments for a second time. I got through verse 4, but in a few minutes (yes, whole minutes!) I “woke up” and was reading verse 9 without the slightest recollection of what was in verses 5-8. I didn’t fall asleep. My mind wandered. …

I apologized to the Lord. Yes, I think it is an insult not to pay attention when someone is talking to you. We need to apologize, the same as if we were daydreaming at a restaurant when someone across the table is talking to us.

–John Piper, Reading the Bible Supernaturally

Did you hear his perspective…?

When you read the Bible… God is talking to you…!

The Word is living and active… and if living… it is speaking to you…

Pay attention when you read His Word…

Hear what He is saying…

Because when you are in His Word…

You are not just reading… He is speaking…

For the word of God is living and active…

Hebrews 4:12 NASB

Anyone need to apologize sometimes…? besides me…?
