dropping anchors…

My soul longs for salvation; I hope in your word.

Psalm 119:81 ESV

A recent gift… has me seeing hope in a new light…

Hope has been elusive in my life… something I find hard to hang on to… because it is something we cannot see…

Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees?

Romans 8:24 ESV

And my history is fraught with dashed hopes…

But this gift… a bracelet… gives me a clear picture of hope as something to hold tight…

Hope… symbolized as an anchor…

The connection made when I read… I hope in Your Word…

You see… the Hebrew translated as “hope” literally means… “to wait”… “tarry”…

Hope holds us in place… keeps us steady… from drifting away… while we wait for His promises to come to pass…

An anchor set deep… is unseen… just like hope…

He’s been dropping anchors in my life recently…

Hope… found in His Word…

Ones I need… to keep the course… tarry in the places He’s set me…

Like living free… seeing His glorious grace and love… in light of past failures…

I will rejoice and be glad in your lovingkindness, because you have seen my affliction; you have known the troubles of my soul, and you have not given me over to the hand of the enemy; you have set my feet in a large place.

Psalm 31:7-8 NASB

To have feet set in a large place… is to be free…

A hope… an anchor… a truth… to keep me from doubting His love for me…

Then the call to sow seed on hard ground… stay persistent… do it with joy…

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

“For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress; instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and it shall make a name for the Lord, an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”

Isaiah 55:10-13 ESV

Now there’s an anchor… a hope… for scattering His Word on hard ground…

His Word will not return to Him empty… it will do just what He purposed it to…

Where thorns currently grow… fruit-full trees… will grow in their place…

A totally new perspective on hope… one which frees me… to boldly abide in Him…

Where are you feeling unsure…? tossed about…? set adrift…?

Ask Him to start dropping anchors in your life…

Find hope in His Word… hang onto it… keep steady… don’t drift away…
