I find emotions stirred… caught up in a competition…
One in which I have no stake… emotional or otherwise…
I don’t know the competitors… except by reputation… but I find my heart rate increased… attention riveted…
My own loud exclamation… grabs my attention…
And I wonder… Why…? why do I care so much…? so much… I wish the other do poorly… against the one for whom I root…?
Our fleshly emotions stir us to sin… to not love one as well as another… when we are called to love all as well as we do ourselves…
For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Galatians 5:14 ESV
Spiritually… I take a step back… rein in my emotions…
I remember His sovereignty… even in competition… and His love for all… even the ones I watch play…
I remember the point of life… finding Him… not coming out on top as defined by the world…
So I pray… Your will be done… win or lose… whatever will bring both closer to You… that’s the win I want…
Our emotions can stir us to lose sight of what’s important… to forget there’s a spiritual reality behind everything in the world…
What’s most important… is what we cannot see…
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

I still have one I would like to see win… but now… quell my fleshly desire… with the importance of what’s going on in hearts and souls… what’s happening in the eternal realm… not on the court of play…
For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.*

If you find your emotions stirred… causing you to focus on the things of the world… not the things of the Spirit… pause… consider… step back… refocus…
