If God is sovereign… is every encounter God-ordained…?
Even the telemarketer who calls on the phone…?
If… then… how do those who follow Him… love and respect… those who cross our path…?
Josh called the shop today… soliciting I’m not sure what…
But I listened… questioned… tried to end the conversation nicely…
When I said I wouldn’t send him any information today… because I didn’t know him…
He said… We’ve been talking ten minutes… I feel like you know me by now…
I told him it took longer than ten minutes for me to get to know someone…
In an effort to change (or end) the conversation… I asked… What are you doing this weekend…?
He told me his plans to go to the beach… and a museum…
I asked if he was going to church on Sunday…
No… I’m not religious…
The conversation progressed…
Me… Are you going to school…?
Josh… In the fall…
Me… What are you going to study…?
Josh… Underwater welding…
Then it happened… the Holy Spirit whispered… Offer to pray for him…
I argued for a moment… but then said… Josh… can I pray for you and your education…?
Sure… I’m open to that… I like those vibes…
So yes… I prayed for him… and his future… and for Jesus to make a date with him to introduce himself to Josh…
The conversation came to a close… I never had anyone pray for me on the phone before…
Me… Maybe we’ll talk again one day…
Josh… Do you want my number…?
Me… Sure…
I took down his work number and extension…
Reflecting on the call… I felt a bit convicted for the way the conversation started… actually humbled… for the opportunity to pray for this young man… who doesn’t know Him…
Feeling a connection with him… a vibe… from the Holy Spirit…
Just might use that number to check in with him…
If God is sovereign… then every encounter… is God-ordained…
The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.
