For several months now… I’ve been corresponding with my aunt via US mail… snail mail… as it’s come to be known…
It’s been several years… like decades… since I’ve written letters regularly… email… text… instant messaging… have changed the tempo of written communication…
There’s a whole different feel to letters… written longhand… placed in envelopes… addressed… stamped…
And don’t forget the stationary…Â I love stationary…!
I mailed her a letter today… and since then I’m already anticipating when she might get it… how long it will be before she writes back…
The excitement of going to the mailbox has been stirred afresh…
I think about all those letters Paul wrote to the churches… taking the time to write… knowing there would be a wait… all the while… wondering how what’s been written would be received… when he might hear back…
I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. This is the sign of genuineness in every letter of mine; it is the way I write. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
2Thessalonians 3:17-18 ESV
Patience… waiting… anticipation… all tied up in relationship… wanting to be known… wanting to know…
Also a picture of waiting on Him… and His waiting on us…
He’s written us a letter… really a whole book full… called the Bible…
He patiently waits… anticipates… our response… all the while… desiring to deepen relationship with us…
Write Him a letter… with your life…
And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
2Corinthians 3:3 ESV
