Chilly days… cold nights… mean fires in the fireplace…
Each morning… waking to what seems cold… dead… still… where fire blazed bright and warm the night before…
The wood consumed… gray ashes in their place…
But under the gray… hide coals… which need stirring…
Using the poker… they are uncovered… revealing a fuel for flame…
By adding small pieces of wood… bark… kindling… there is potential for fire…
Fanning the fuel into flame is also required…
Breaths of air… blown over the coals… crackling begins… smoke starts to rise…
Soon… there’s flame… warmth… fire…
Life… returns to the hearth…
Considering the work to stir up the fire… after the cold creeps in overnight… I see the same is true for our spiritual fervor… the fire in our hearts…
It takes tending… to keep the fire of faith burning in our spirits…
The breath of the Spirit… needs to blow over our hearts…
But He is not pushy… He waits to be invited… for us to come to Him…
We must first recognize… the cold creeping in… the dark taking over…
These chilly days… and cold nights… remind me… to keep Him burning in my heart…
The fuel for the fire…? His Word… prayer… obedience… patient waiting… and an understanding of our role…
We must fan the flame of faith… daily… moment by moment… because the way of the world… is constantly working to extinguish our spirit’s fire…
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God…
