“You are the light of the world. …”
Matthew 5:14 ESV
I talked with a couple of sisters on Sunday… in the course of the conversation… the topic of what it means to be the church… came up… We are the light of the world… the only light… in a dark world…
Believers are entrusted with Jesus’s Spirit… His Light in us… to love as He does… to be as He is… that’s why following His commands… learning to hear and obey the Spirit… is so important…
This being light in the dark is an odd thing…
When we obey His leading… sitting next to a particular someone in church… offer prayer right then and there… make a phone call… deliver cookies… whatever He says… people are impacted… but we may not see what’s been done through us…
Light just is…
When you walk in His Light… carry His Light with you… it’s just always light around you…

But those who are in the dark… when you bring the light in through acts of love as led by the Spirit… they see something you don’t…
He leads you to lighten their world in a way… only He knows they need… and when you obey without knowing why… well… it just feels odd…
Then when they share stories of what you’ve done for them… it’s like… What in the world did I do…? I didn’t do anything… I just obeyed what I heard… it wasn’t me…
Being light is not who we are naturally… it’s a supernatural part of walking with the Spirit…
In a dark world… being light in the church… builds fellowship like nothing else can… because even Believers have dark moments and seasons…
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another…

It builds bonds of thanks and wonder…
Being light… I want to make sure others see Him… not me…
Today… listening to stories about me from a friend in Christ… I marveled at all I hadn’t done… but how He impacted another through me…
Really… really… odd…
Yet… it’s affirmation… for continuing to carry His Light… doing odd things…
Follow Him… even when it feels odd… because you are… being light…
