orthodoxy…

orthodox… 1a: conforming to established doctrine especially in religion

–Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (11th Ed.)

Had a great conversation today with a member of the Orthodox Church…

He shared his journey… (at least a small part it…) how he came to be a member… and how it’s different from other churches…

It was fascinating… but reflecting on his story… I’d love to ask some follow-up questions…

Wondering what drove him on his search for the just right church… and why the need to connect with a denomination… or even a non-denomination…

Of course we all have different journeys… to get us where we are… and all Believers need a faith community with which to gather…

My journey has been more of a calling than a choice…

By the time I knew enough about Jesus and His orthodoxy to understand… I knew I wasn’t in a place that would feed me… or my children… but instead of leading me on a search… He called me to pray…

The current denomination of the church where I worship… is working toward upheaval over doctrine…

Some of their established doctrine isn’t exactly in-line with Scripture… which to me is the foundation for all Christian orthodoxy… but even with the possible upheaval… I’m not sure I’ll be called to go… but stay…

It’s been a shift in me… something He’s done… because in my flesh I want to flee… find the church just right for me…

But He’s shown me along the journey… there are not many churches… but ONE…

He alone knows His church… He alone defines its doctrine… He alone will gather His Church… which is… for now… scattered…

I find myself needing to be solely defined by Jesus… and His Word… by the power of His Spirit…

Jesus… He’s the only orthodoxy I need…

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. …”

Matthew 25:31-32 ESV
