For several days now we’ve been giving grace to a dog…
When he showed up we initially tried to run him off… but he kept reappearing… eating our cat’s food…
Then we realized just how hungry he was… lost… thin… so we offered him hospitality…
We bought him food… protected him with boundaries… he was surrendered… meek… sat when we said…
Our guest seemed to have been another’s dog at one time… he’s still a puppy… not quite full grown… he came with a rainbow collar…
But as he gained weight… and strength… he became a tad unruly…
Just last night we took a walk with him down the street… our new friend bounded… full of energy… he chased a cat… my husband said… He used to follow me around everywhere I went… come when I called… but not now…
I say… That’s exactly how we act with God…
We run to him homeless and hungry… in crisis… unable to help ourselves… we seek grace… follow Him… obey His Word… but then… when we are full… feeling as if we are back in control… we go our own way… we forget our Savior…
Just as the dog has forgotten the saving grace offered him…
“And when the Lord your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you — with great and good cities that you did not build, and houses full of all good things that you did not fill, and cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant — and when you eat and are full, then take care lest you forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. It is the Lord your God you shall fear. Him you shall serve…
Deuteronomy 6:10-13 ESV
So don’t forget… all is grace… you have nothing He didn’t provide… whether saved or unsaved… He is your God…
Choose today… to serve the One who loves you… Amen…
PS… Dear Facebook friends who live near me… if you recognize our guest… know who’s missing him… or would like him as your own… just message me…
