The preacher preached… what it meant to believe according to the specific denomination…
My spirit screamed… I don’t want to believe like a member of a denomination… I want to believe Jesus…!
And it just makes me wonder why we let denominations define what it means to believe… when He says… Follow Me…
When denominations… defined by people… decide by vote what it means to believe… rather than allowing the Holy Spirit through His Word… to speak… to define… what it means to believe… we end up divided…
Call me naive… but I truly believe in the unity of the Spirit… and when members of His body are seeking His Spirit… seeking each to follow Him… rather than listening to others… I believe there will be unity of belief…
There is one body and one Spirit — just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call — one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
Ephesians 4:4-7 ESV
He never said… believe like… Baptists… Catholics… Methodists… Presbyterians… Episcopalians… or any other denomination you can think of…
He said… Follow Me…
So I try… I worship in a church affiliated with a major denomination… but they do not define what I believe… He does… through His Word… and by His Spirit…
His church… His true church… is at this moment scattered…
It is found mixed in all denominations… and those which claim to be non-denominational…
He alone knows who belongs to His church… the ones who follow Him…
Who defines what you believe… when it comes to following Him…?
