So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
2Corinthians 4:18 NIV
Thoughts continue when it comes to the attitude of the church…and its works… regarding unseen and eternal vs seen and temporal…
The disciples wondered why they failed in casting out a demonic spirit… privately they asked Him… Why couldn’t we…?
And He told them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer [and fasting].”
Mark 9:29 HCSB
Some things can only be done… by tending to the unseen works…
The Great Unseen calls us to pray… fast… over spiritual issues… because this work makes the way for eternal changes…
But the unseen nature of the work… makes it a real battle…
Practicing unseen works can stir questions of doubt… Is anything really happening during this call to fast…? What exactly am I denying myself for…? Praying prayers with others just feels like we’re talking to ourselves… how could this make any difference…?
And of course… nothing appears to change… nothing visible anyway…
There is a huge element of faith when it comes to tending to the unseen… yet this is the only work of true importance…
I’m not saying serving… giving… tending to the needs of others isn’t important… there is a spiritual reality behind all we do… experience… and see…
The key is to be open to Him calling you to make the way for temporal works… to become eternal works… by answering the call to pray… and fast… as you serve in the seen areas…
Have you heard the call…?
Did you say… Yes…?
The more we focus on the unseen… eternal… things… like Jesus… His Word… and the souls of others… the more readily we will hear His call… and answer the invitation…
Just be prepared for a battle…
