child-like confessions…

In worship this morning… three blond-headed little girls… led us in a responsive reading of Psalm 51…

Have mercy upon me, O God,

According to your lovingkindness;

According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,

Blot out my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,

And cleanse me from my sin.

Psalm 51:1-2

Such big words…

For I acknowledge my transgressions,

And my sin is always before me.

Against You, You only, have I sinned,

And done this evil in Your sight —

That You may be found just when You speak,

And blameless when You judge.

Psalm 51:3-4

Such big theology…

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,

And in sin my mother conceived me.

Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts,

And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.

Psalm 51:5-6

Such small voices…

And I wonder… Do they understand what they are saying…? do they know the meaning…?

Then it occurs to me… That’s me…! that’s how He hears me…!

A little girl… a child… coming before my heavenly Father… with words I can hardly grasp the true meaning of…

I only have a child-like understanding of all I’ve done… and all He’s done to make it right… I can only make a child-like confession…

Reflecting upon the thought… I hear Jesus intercede for me…  Father… forgive her… for she knows not what she does…

And in His gracious fatherly love… with Jesus standing in the gap before me… He does…

He’ll do the same for you… with each child-like confession you bring…
