Wrecked… I find myself wrecked by His love this morning…
David Crowder’s song says it like this…
He is jealous for me, loves like a hurricane, I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy
—How He Loves
And that’s how I feel… like I’ve been loved by a hurricane… bent over… low… beneath the weight of His mercy…
His love reminds of His great faithfulness… His love that will not leave us undone… His continued loved even when we love something… or someone else more…
I wonder how He loves those who have seen His great glory… and then turn their backs… Simon Peter for example… who’d seen Him quiet storms with a word… feed thousands with thanks…
…Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. … Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. …” Mark 9:2-5 NIV
From the mountaintop… to the courtyard of Caiaphas…
…the bystanders again said to Peter, “Certainly you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.” But he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear. “I do not know this man of whom you speak.” And immediately the rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” Mark 14:70-72
Peter changed from a man awed by His glory… willing to die for Him… to denying he ever knew Him…
In all our failures to be faithful… He remains steadfastly in love with us…
It wrecks me… just wrecked me… the way He reminded this morning…
He endures rejection… curses… crucifixion… to pursue us in love… and those who are His… like Peter… He will NOT leave undone…
“… behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” Luke 22:31-32 ESV
He knows what we are made of… dust… which after a brief time… turns back to dust…
He knows our weakness for temptation… because He became one of us… endured what we could not… never breaking under the weight… but identifying with us just the same…
So grateful for His faithful… jealous… steadfast… love… which just refuses to let us go…
For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6 NASB
[…] The weight of His glory still rests on me… in the wake of being wrecked… […]
