a strange church…

As we set up chairs… tables… move displays… she says…
This is a very strange church…

Every Tuesday at noon… and again Friday mornings…
we make way in our shop… for church to gather…
Bible study with women… going deeper into faith…
and journeying through the Bible…

And I think it’s not so strange…
because church has nothing to do with the setting…
it’s who you gather with…

Jesus said…

“…I will build my church…”
Matthew 16:18 ESV
The word used in the Greek… ekklesia… means… a gathering of citizens called out from their homes into some public place… an assembly… (Enhanced Strong’s Lexicon)
And that’s what we do…  gather in a public place…
in a shop… downtown… in a small east Texas town…
It makes me think… what’s really strange… is what we’ve come to think of as church… a building with a steeple… stained glass windows… pews… hymnals… even when it’s empty…
His church… is His people… gathered in His name… period…
“… For where two or three are gathered in my name,
there am I among them.” — Jesus
Matthew 18:20 ESV
